JAMES IVERSON
Aug. 19, 1917 - Mar. 9, 2010
SALEM - James Iverson, 92, passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at Clare Bridge Memory Care in Salem, Ore. He died in his sleep of complications from a recent broken hip and stroke. Born at home in a farmhouse near Bagley, Minn. on August 19, 1917, James was the fourth youngest of 12 children.
He lived in Bagley until he volunteered for the army shortly after Pearl Harbor. He served in World War II in the Pacific Theater.
When he returned to Bagley after the war, he met and later married MARJORIE TURNER. They soon moved to the Seattle, Wash. area where both of their boys were born and raised. James worked in construction as a large crane operator and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 302 for sixty-two years.
After James retired, he and Marjorie moved to Plain, Wash., then to Arizona City, Ariz. and finally to Salem, Ore.
James is preceded in death by all four of his brothers and five of his sisters; as well as his youngest son, Bob.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; his two sisters, Eva Braaten and Lenora Rutledge; his son, Jim Iverson; 5 grandchildren, Justin, Chris, Tessa, Jerry and Trevor; and 7 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 13 at the Chapel of the Gardens (Howell-Edwards-Doerksen Funeral Home), 1350 Commercial Street SE, Salem. Interment will be at 3 p.m., Monday, March 15 at Floral Hills Cemetery, 409 Filbert Road, Lynwood, Wash. Arrangements by Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors.
